What Work Was Done?

John M.’s roofing project in Dearborn, MI, focused on repairing and reinforcing vulnerable sections of an aging roof system using CertainTeed roofing materials and targeted decking repairs where needed.

Roofing Repairs Completed

The repair project included:

  • Installing CertainTeed Colonial Slate roofing materials
  • Approximately 3 squares of shingles
  • Approximately 3 squares of rolled roofing
  • Synthetic roofing underlayment
  • Starter shingles along all eaves and rakes
  • New 1.5-inch drip edge installation

The repair work addressed both shingled and rolled roofing sections on a 7-pitch roof system to help improve weather resistance and reinforce aging roof areas.

Roof Decking & Structural Repairs

Part of the repair involved replacing deteriorated roof decking beneath sections of the rolled roofing area where moisture exposure had weakened the wood substrate.

The project included:

  • Up to 10 sheets of sheathing replacement
  • The first 5 sheets are included at no additional cost
  • Additionally, sheathing was installed as needed to create a stable base beneath the repaired roofing sections

Addressing damaged decking during roof repairs helps improve the long-term reliability and performance of the repaired areas.

Improving Long-Term Leak Protection

The repairs were designed to strengthen vulnerable roof sections while improving water management and weather protection by using updated materials and integrating flashing.

Projects like this are common throughout Dearborn, where many older roofing systems require selective repairs to address aging materials, localized moisture damage, and long-term wear without requiring complete replacement.
